Experience
Tony’s experience as a solicitor extends over 28 years. He was previously a partner of a prominent Brisbane firm before he left to establish Hicks and Bennett with Joseph Hicks in 1984. In 1986 Ken Philp joined the firm and the firm changed its name to Bennett and Philp.
Tony heads the firm’s Intellectual Property practice alongside Ken. While his expertise lies predominantly in Intellectual Property, he has gained a wide breadth of experience allowing him to advise clients on matters associated with Insolvency and Bankruptcy Law and Business and Corporate Law.
Tony presently deals with both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property cases. He provides advice to clients on patents, trade marks, copyright enforcement, passing off, registered design and design right law, misappropriation of trade secrets, new technology,
R & D projects, infringement claims, protection and ownership, management and commercialisation, licensing, privacy compliance and tax efficient structuring of intellectual property rights.
His knowledge also extends to providing advice in relation to corporate deals, joint ventures, share transfers, mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, debt recovery, contractual disputes, TPA compliance, compliance with ASIC/ACCC regulations, as well as general commercial advice.
Tony’s clientele includes commercial organisations from both the public and private sectors, patent and trade mark attorneys, private individuals and a number of multi-national conglomerates. His client base extends across the Asia-Pacific Region, Europe and the United States. His success, spanning over two decades, is attributable to his thorough knowledge of the rule of law and his innate ability to simplify highly complex matters.
